Not in Laos

A group of Laotian people, having fled their homeland and spent time in refugee camps, eventually resettled in French Guiana due to the region’s similar climate and natural resources. Eager to maintain their heritage, they rebuilt homes in the style of their original village and resumed traditional pursuits such as fishing and gardening. Over time, this transplanted community carved out a livelihood in their new surroundings, finding jobs while preserving core Laotian customs and social structures. Today, a new generation includes children of mixed backgrounds—Brazilian, French, and others—who bring fresh perspectives to the evolving village. As these families grow and integrate into the local environment, their blend of Laotian culture and South American influences creates a vibrant testament to the resilience and adaptability of their shared history.
